About the Conservancy

Our Story

Our History

A Legacy of Community Conservation

In 1995, our journey began as part of the Koyiaki-Lemek Community Wildlife Trust, a pioneering effort to protect the Maasai Mara ecosystem while honoring traditional land stewardship.

Seeking greater autonomy and a more direct path to prosperity, the Lemek community pooled their individually titled lands in 2009 to form the Mara Lemek Conservancy.

Today, it stands as a testament to community-driven conservation, demonstrating that wildlife protection and community development can thrive together.
